Xbox won't go from sliver to gold?

hi i bought the one month gold at xbox.com and payed by debit. my account now says that i'm on gold and the one the xbox it says that i'm xbox live and that my one month has been payed for. but it stills says i'm xbox sliver and won't connect how to i switch to gold?
