How to compost pears?

I recently moved into a house with a pear tree in the back yard. Unfortunately all these pears are falling into the yard- and there are alot of them. It is a huge tree. So we started raking them into a pile with no composting knowledege. Now we have a huge rotting stinky pile of pears. I need a fix/ solution... any ideas?...
